November 2009 I’ve had my first acquaintance with the country Nepal. A country which I’ve heard much of and in my dreams have been there. I therefore felt at home.
After 2 weeks many seen, heard, smelled and experienced to do so, I went back home. In those two weeks I met Jaya and became acquainted with his wife Arpana and their 11 months old son Johan. Johan was constantly ill and “I should take him”.
I bought several baby stuff. One day I went back to them to educate them how nurse a baby and what they could give him to eat. I promised them that I would adopt Johan on distance.
On the plane home the idea arose to establish a foundation and to set up a jewelry line. In December, my husband Peter surprised me with a double ticket to Nepal. He wanted to see with his own eyes where I had been and whom I had adopted. He also was deeply impressed. Once at home we decided that both the foundation and the jewelry line should become reality. "A pig in the barn is better off compared to the circumstances this family has to live. And they still have to pay rent, "he said.
Both the foundation and the jewelry line I named after his wife Jaya Arpana, meaning: those who sacrifice. And yes, that's what she does in a country like Nepal.
Thanks to very nice people around me, everything has become reality.
And I hope for many years we can along with their good work can and should do in this beautiful country at the foot of the Himalayas.
With love,
Anoeska
